Acronis True Image vs Qiling Disk Master: Backup or Clone?

Acronis True Image and Qiling Disk Master can both protect a Windows installation, but backup and cloning solve different problems. A backup image is useful for restoring to an earlier state. A disk clone is useful when replacing a drive. Choose the job first, then compare the software.

Product differences that matter

NeedAcronis True ImageQiling Disk Master
Local Windows image backupYes.Yes.
Disk clone for a replacement driveYes, subject to supported disk layouts.Yes; verify source and destination before proceeding.
Integrated cloud backupAvailable in eligible plans.Do not assume an Acronis-style cloud service is included.
Integrated anti-malware protectionAvailable according to the current plan.Use a separate security product; backup is not antivirus.

Acronis offers a broader protection suite, while Qiling combines Windows backup, clone, and disk tools. That is a difference in scope, not proof that either product is universally faster or safer. Check current editions and licensing before choosing.

Should you make an image or clone the disk?

Choose System backup if you want a dated image to restore after a failed update, software change, or drive replacement. Choose Disk clone if you have a destination drive ready to replace the current one. Cloning normally overwrites the destination, so confirm the model and capacity of both drives and copy anything you need from the destination first.

For ongoing protection, keep more than one backup generation. A single clone made months ago does not capture later changes, and a backup stored only on the original physical disk will not help if that disk fails.

Create a Windows system image with Qiling Disk Master

Connect an external drive or choose a different healthy disk with enough free space. This workflow creates an image; it does not overwrite a destination disk as a clone would.

Step 1. Launch Qiling Disk Master. Open Backup and recovery and choose System backup. Confirm the Windows installation to be protected.

Select System backup in Qiling Disk Master

Step 2. Select an external or separate physical disk as the destination. Check its drive letter and available space so the image is not saved to the drive being protected.

Choose another disk for the Windows system image

Step 3. Review the source and destination, set a schedule if needed, and click Proceed. Leave the destination connected until the task reports completion.

Start and complete the system backup task

Step 4. Check that the new image is present. Keep its location and any recovery media documented so you can restore after Windows stops booting.

Verify your protection plan

Use the product's image-check function where available and make sure you know how to start the recovery environment. Periodically test a small file restore. If you need cloud copies, ransomware protection, or multi-device management, compare those specific Acronis plan features rather than assuming a local disk-image tool provides them.
