Before You Start

Windows Method: Restore the USB with Disk Management

  1. Connect the bootable USB drive and remove other USB storage devices if possible.
  2. Right-click Start and open Disk Management. Find the USB drive by capacity and removable-disk label.
  3. Right-click each old boot, EFI, or small partition on the USB drive and choose Delete Volume. Do not delete partitions from your internal disk.
  4. When the USB shows as unallocated space, right-click it and choose New Simple Volume.
  5. Use the full available size, assign a drive letter, and format it as exFAT or NTFS. Keep Quick Format selected for normal reuse.
  6. Open File Explorer and confirm the USB now shows its full capacity.

DiskPart Fallback When Disk Management Cannot Delete the USB Partitions

This method erases the selected disk. Check the disk number twice before running clean.

  1. Open Command Prompt as administrator and type diskpart.
  2. Type list disk and identify the USB drive by size.
  3. Type select disk N, replacing N with the USB disk number.
  4. Type detail disk and confirm it is the USB drive.
  5. Type clean to remove the old boot layout.
  6. Type create partition primary.
  7. Type format fs=exfat quick, or use format fs=ntfs quick for Windows-only storage.
  8. Type assign and then exit.

Use Qiling Disk Master to Rebuild the USB Layout

Use Qiling Disk Master if Windows shows several tiny boot partitions or does not let you delete them in Disk Management. The correct workflow is to remove the old USB boot layout first, then create one new full-size partition.

Step 1. Select the Old USB Partition

Open Qiling Disk Master and locate the bootable USB drive by capacity, disk number, and partition layout. Select one of the old boot, EFI, or small tool-created partitions on the USB drive. Do not select a partition on the internal Windows disk.

Step 2. Delete the USB Boot Partitions

Choose Delete for the old USB partition. Repeat the same action for the other small partitions on the same USB drive until the USB space is ready to become unallocated.

Step 3. Preview and Click Proceed

Check the preview carefully. The pending operations should delete partitions only from the removable USB drive. If the disk number and capacity are correct, click Proceed and wait until the delete operation is complete.

Step 4. Select the Remaining Unallocated Space and Create a Partition

After the old boot partitions are removed, select the new unallocated space on the USB drive. Right-click it and choose Create to build one normal storage partition.

Step 5. Set the Partition Size and Format

Use the full USB capacity, assign a drive letter, and choose a file system. exFAT is suitable for broad device compatibility, while NTFS is better for Windows-only storage. Confirm the settings, click Proceed, and then reconnect the USB drive to refresh its capacity in Windows.

Conclusion

Handle the visible symptom first, then protect data before any delete, format, resize, or clone action. If the disk layout is confusing, use a visual tool and confirm the target before you click Proceed.
