Stop taking photos with the card as soon as you notice missing images. Cameras may reuse the same storage blocks, and even a successful scan cannot restore data that has been overwritten. Set the card's physical lock switch if it has one, then connect it with a reliable reader.
Look in the camera's DCIM folders and any import folder on the PC. Verify whether the photos were moved rather than deleted, and check cloud sync or a recent backup. If Windows reports that the card must be formatted, cancel the prompt. A card that shows no correct capacity or repeatedly disconnects may have a hardware fault.
Install Qiling on the computer, not the card, and prepare a separate destination drive.
Step 1. Choose USB/SD Scan in Qiling Deep Data Recovery. If you know the card was formatted, Format Scan may be more appropriate.

Step 2. Select the SD card by its capacity and drive letter. Use the picture file-type filter if available, then start scanning.

Step 3. Preview JPG, PNG, or camera RAW results before selecting them. A thumbnail may be intact while a full-sized image is damaged, so preview files at their available size.

Step 4. Click Recover for selected photos and choose a folder on another drive. Open the saved copies in an image viewer before reusing the card.

If the card is not consistently readable, develops I/O errors, or contains irreplaceable work, avoid repeated scans and seek professional help. Recovery success depends on the card's condition and whether later captures overwrote the missing photos. For a broader comparison, see SD card photo recovery tools.
