Clone a Windows 7 system partition to another disk or SSD. Include boot partitions, preview the layout, and make the cloned drive bootable.

Windows 7 may store boot files in a System Reserved partition, on C drive, or on another active partition. A reliable clone should include every partition required to boot, not just the visible Windows partition.
Cloning is useful when you want to move Windows, replace an old disk, or protect a working system before repair. Prepare a target disk with enough capacity, and back up files on the target because they may be overwritten.
Step 1. Install the new SSD or connect it through a reliable USB-to-SATA/NVMe adapter. Open Qiling Disk Master and choose the clone feature from the tools page.

Step 2. Select the source disk or system partition. For a bootable Windows clone, include the EFI/System Reserved partition and the Windows partition, not only the C drive.

Step 3. Select the target SSD or hard drive. Confirm the model and capacity so you do not overwrite the wrong device.

Step 4. Preview the clone result. Adjust partition size on the target if you are cloning to a larger SSD, then confirm the boot partitions are included.

Step 5. Click Proceed to start cloning. After it finishes, shut down the PC, set the cloned disk as the first boot device, and test Windows before erasing the old disk.

Should I repair Windows before backing up? If the disk is readable, back up first. Repair commands, formatting, resizing, and reset options can change data or boot records.
Can Windows built-in tools solve the issue? Often yes. Use Settings, Disk Management, Startup Repair, CHKDSK, SFC, or DISM first when the risk is low. Use Qiling tools when you need a clearer disk map, safer preview, or a full backup before changing the drive.
What should I avoid? Do not format a drive that still holds needed files, do not run clean commands on the wrong disk, and do not clone to a target disk that contains the only copy of important data.
For Windows 7, cloning only C drive may not be enough. Include the boot partition, confirm the target layout, and test startup before deleting the old disk.
