SD Write Protected After Installing Games, How to Fix

I have a micro SD memory, which I'm able to open its file and read the content, but I cannot write or format it. I tried scanning it for viruses with Kaspersky and windows defender, but it seems clean. I also scanned it for corrupted sectors, but it seems to be ok. I've tried everything: CMD, clear attributes read-only command, several software to remove the write protection, and tried to format it on a Linux-based OS, but nothing unlocks it. Any idea for a possible solution? Thanks in advance.

If your SD became write-protected after installing games, then there are three possibilities when you see a message telling you that your SD card is write-protected:

  • The SD card has been put into write protection mode to prevent data loss due to unknown viruses or malware.
  • The games on your SD card need to be reformatted in order to correct the error that appears after installing them. This will ensure that the games are properly installed and can be accessed without any issues.
  • Your SD card uses flash memory, which has limited time for writing and modifying data. This can lead to issues with data integrity and reliability, especially when compared to traditional hard drives that use spinning disks and magnetic heads. As a result, SD cards may not be the best choice for applications that require frequent data writing or modification, such as video editing or large file storage.

If your physical switch is on the "OFF" side, it may be the cause of your issue. The toggle switch is often located on the side or at the bottom of your device. Check it to see if it's switched to the "OFF" position. If it is, try switching it to the "ON" position to see if that resolves the issue.
