Why Is My iPhone, iPad, or iPod Not Showing Up in iTunes?

Many factors, such as an outdated iPod or a malfunctioning iTunes, can cause issues with recognizing your device. Additionally, computer settings or improper iTunes operation may also be responsible. Regardless of the reason, the issue can be resolved by following the steps outlined in the provided post.

Basic Solutions to iTunes Not Recognizing iPod

To fix the issue of iTunes not recognizing your iPod, first make a copy of your music on the iPod by backing it up with iCloud or exporting it to a computer for safekeeping. Then, try restarting your iPod and iTunes, checking for any software updates, and ensuring that your iPod is properly connected to your computer. If the issue persists, you can try resetting your iPod or using a different USB port. If none of these solutions work, you may need to restore your iPod to its factory settings.

Solution 1. Update driver software

Step 1. To update the driver for your iPod, right-click on "This PC" and choose "Manage", then select "Device Manager" from the list of options. Next, navigate to the "Other devices" section, also known as "Portable devices" on some computers, and right-click on your iPod's name. Finally, choose the "Update Driver" option to initiate the update process.

Step 2.To install the driver, choose "Browse my computer for driver software", then select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", followed by "Digital Media Devices", and finally click on "Next" and then "Have Disk...".

Step 3. To access the drivers, click on "Browse" and navigate to "This PC" > "Local Disk" > "Program Files" > "Common Files" > "Apple" > "Mobile Device Support" > "Drivers", then double-click on the .inf file.

Step 4. Click on "OK" > Confirm your choice by clicking on "OK."

Step 5. Go back to the "Update Driver Software" page, click "Next."

Step 6. To check if iTunes recognizes your iPod, open iTunes on your computer and go to the top left corner where your name is displayed. From the dropdown menu, select "Account" and then click on "iTunes Store" to see if your iPod is listed under "Devices.

Step 3. To access the standard service, double-click on the "Services" option and then select "Standard" from the bottom of the screen.

Step 4. You'll see a list of data, find "Apple Mobile Device Services" and right-click it, then choose "Properties" from the context menu.

Step 5. To change the Startup type to "Automatic," click on the Startup tab, select the desired service, click on the dropdown menu next to "Startup type," and select "Automatic." Then, click "Apply" and finally click "Start" to enable the service.

Solution 3. Sync iPod to Computer with an iTunes Alternative

If your iPod still isn't showing on iTunes after trying the previous solutions, you can consider using an alternative to iTunes, such as Qiling MobiMover, which can handle tasks like transferring data between devices, backing up your device, and more.

If you need to manage your iPod data, download the software on your computer and start using it to manage your iPod's data.

Step 1.To connect your iPhone to your computer, plug it into your Windows or Mac OS system using a USB cable. Then, launch Qiling MobiMover, select "Phone to PC" and click "Next" to proceed.

Step 2.To export iPhone data, choose the type of files you want to export, customize the destination for the exported data, and then click "Transfer" to quickly copy the files to your computer.

Step 3. Once the transfer process is complete, you can view, edit, keep, or delete the transferred content as needed.

You can also choose to transfer specific categories of data, such as just copying photos from iPhone to PC, instead of transferring the whole data.
