Fixes to Live Photo Not Working on iPhone X/iPhone 8 in iOS 11

Tip 1: Make sure your iPhone is in Photo Mode

If the live photo icon is not showing on your iPhone X/iPhone 8, it's likely because your iPhone is not in Photo Mode. To check, open the Camera app and see if "PHOTO" is selected. If it's not, tap on it to switch to Photo Mode. This should allow the live photo icon to appear.

Tip 2: Make sure live photo is on

To take a live photo on your iPhone, put it in Photo Mode and turn on live photo by clicking the live photo icon (in yellow) under Photo Mode in the Camera app.

Tip 3: Make sure you preview your live photos correctly

If your live photo won't play on your iPhone, try holding down on your screen to view it, and see if the issue persists when viewing it in the correct way.

Tip 4: Check your iPhone speaker

If you find no sound in live photo on your iPhone, check if the mute button is set on, and also test if the speaker works with other Apps correctly. If there's an issue with the speaker, you'll need to fix it to resolve the problem.

Tip 5: Turn on 3D Touch

If your iPhone X/iPhone 8 is not taking live photos in iOS 11, try going to Settings > General > Accessibility > 3D Touch and toggle it on. If 3D Touch is not working, try common troubleshooting tips like restarting or force restarting your iPhone, resetting it, or restoring it to factory settings. This may resolve the issue and get your live photo feature working properly.

Tip 6: Turn Reduce Motion off

To troubleshoot live photo issues on iPhone X or iPhone 8 in iOS 11, turn off Reduce Motion by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion, then toggle it off. This should resolve the issue and allow live photo previews to work properly.
