When camera photos vanish from an SD card, keep the card out of the camera until you know why. New shots can overwrite old image data. First check whether the pictures were imported to your PC or cloud account.
Accidental deletion in a camera, interrupted transfer, file-system errors, and a failing card can all make pictures disappear. The right recovery method depends on whether the card still appears at its normal capacity in Windows.
If the card was formatted, use a formatted-card workflow instead of treating it as an ordinary deletion. If the reader shows no device or zero capacity, do not assume that a software scan can access its contents.
Remove the card safely, connect it through a reliable reader, and cancel any Windows prompt to format it. Note the card's capacity and the camera's picture formats, such as JPG or RAW.
Prepare a separate drive or PC folder on a different physical disk for output. Do not install a recovery program onto the card or save recovered photos back to it.
Qiling Deep Data Recovery provides the scan modes shown below. The mode in Step 2 is chosen for this specific loss scenario; it does not change the need for a separate recovery destination.
Look for previously imported photos and backups. If no intact copy exists, connect an output disk and open Deep Data Recovery on the Windows PC.
Select USB/SD Scan for a card whose photos were deleted without formatting. If the card was formatted, choose Format Scan instead.
Choose the SD card by its capacity and drive letter. Confirm it is the camera card rather than the destination, then start Scan.
Filter to Pictures and the expected formats. Preview photos from multiple dates and sizes; a thumbnail alone may not show whether the full file is intact.
Select the photos that appear intact, click Recover, and save them on the separate disk. Open full-resolution copies before reusing the SD card.
A damaged card can return broken image files even when filenames appear. Avoid repeatedly scanning a card that disconnects or has read errors; consider creating a specialist image of the device.
After recovery, maintain two independent copies of important pictures before formatting or replacing the card. Treat repeat errors as a warning that the card should not be reused.
Keep it out until files are safely copied. Cameras may write thumbnails or metadata automatically.
No. File recovery and image repair are different tasks; test the recovered file before assuming it is usable.
