How to Remove SD Card From Write Protection

I have a problem with my SD card. I formatted it for the Steam Deck, and then I upgraded it. I want to use it on other devices but cannot format it. It says the SD card is write-protected. I have been googling and trying the command prompt, but it did not work. Does anybody have other solutions that can help me? Thanks.

If your SD card is under write protection, you can resolve the issue by removing the protection, after which you can format it on another device.

To remove write protection from your SD card, start by checking the physical switch on the card itself. If the switch is locked, it may be causing your device to become write-protected on all computers it's connected to. To resolve this, simply unlock the switch, and your SD card should no longer be write-protected. If the switch is not the issue, you can try other methods to remove the write protection.

Step 1. To physically switch your SD card from ON to OFF, locate the tiny switch on the SD card and flip it from the ON position to the OFF position. This switch is usually located on the top-right or top-left corner of the SD card and is very small.

Step 2. Connect the unlocked SD card to your computer, then check if the write-protected state disappears.

If your SD card doesn't have a physical switch or the system still warns you that your SD card is write-protected, you can use a third-party tool software like Qiling Disk Master to remove the write protection. This method is user-friendly and can be helpful for those with little computer experience.

Here are some steps for you in simple clicks as follows:

Step 1. Download and install Qiling Disk Master.

Step 2. Enter the "Disk mangement" tab page.

Step 3. Right-click your write-protected SD card, choose "Write Protection" > "Disable".

After following the steps, your SD card will be removed from write protection. Additionally, the Qiling Disk Master offers other functions, including [insert functions here].

The Qiling Disk Master supports setting the Steam Deck SD card format to the best, and can help remove write protection from an SD card, allowing it to be formatted on other devices. This solution can be helpful in addressing the issue of write protection on an SD card.
