Samsung Magician Data Migration is the free cloning wizard that ships inside Samsung Magician. It copies your Windows installation, programs, and personal files from an old drive to a new Samsung SSD, so the machine can boot from the SSD without a clean install.
This guide explains what the wizard really does, how to prepare for it, which limits usually stop a migration, and what to do when the clone finishes but the SSD is not detected. A second tool is included at the end for cases where Magician refuses to run.
In practice the wizard is a guided disk clone with Samsung branding. It reads the source drive, writes the same layout to the Samsung SSD, and adjusts the partition size at the end. It does not repair a damaged file system, does not convert a disk between MBR and GPT, and does not unlock an encrypted volume.

Preparation matters more than the clone itself. Most failed migrations reported by users come from a target drive that was never initialized, a USB adapter that dropped the link, or a source disk that was already failing. Run a quick health check with CrystalDiskInfo and note any reallocated sectors before you trust the old drive.

Each of these is a limit of the feature rather than a defect in your hardware. If the target is not a Samsung SSD, or if the disk must change from MBR to GPT, the wizard cannot help and a general cloning tool is the faster route. In those cases, switch to the method in the next section and keep the old drive untouched until the new one boots.
Qiling Disk Master is a Windows cloning and backup tool that works with any SSD brand and can convert between MBR and GPT during the clone. It also resizes partitions on a larger target, which solves the most common Magician limitation.
Watch the video tutorial below to clone the drive step by step with Qiling Disk Master.
Step 1. Open Qiling Disk Master, choose Clone, and then select Disk Clone.

Step 2. Select the source disk and click Next.

Step 3. Select the destination SSD and confirm that its data will be replaced.

Step 4. Choose the clone mode and adjust the partition size if the target is larger.

Step 5. Click Proceed, wait for the copy to finish, then shut the machine down before you remove any cable.

A quick visual check saves an hour of troubleshooting. If the new drive boots but a partition is missing, stop and compare the layouts side by side in Disk Management rather than guessing. When the old drive is still connected, Windows may also boot from it by mistake, so always test with the source unplugged.
No. The Data Migration wizard checks the destination model and only accepts Samsung drives. For another brand, use a general cloning tool or the Qiling steps above.
Yes. Everything on the Samsung SSD is replaced by the cloned layout, so move any files you need to keep to another drive before you start.
Samsung retired the separate download and folded the feature into Magician. Installing the current Magician build is the supported way to reach the wizard.
Check the cable or adapter, initialize the disk in Disk Management, and confirm the Magician version supports that model. A drive that only appears as unallocated space is usually not initialized yet.
Not reliably. Suspend or fully decrypt BitLocker first, complete the migration, and then turn encryption back on for the new drive.
A clone overwrites the destination and depends on a healthy source, so a system image is your only way back if either drive fails during the job. Take the image first, store it on a third disk, and verify that it can be opened before you touch the partitions.
Watch the video tutorial below to back up Windows and restore it if the clone fails.
Step 1. Open Qiling Disk Master and select System Backup to include the boot partitions.

Step 2. Save the image to a drive other than the target disk and start the backup.

Step 3. Click Proceed to start the system backup and wait patiently until it finishes. You can also tick Shut down the computer when the operation is completed to power off automatically.

Step 4. If the clone fails, restore the image and check the source disk before you retry.

Samsung Magician Data Migration is a convenient option when the target is a Samsung SSD, the source is healthy, and the disk layout already matches the way the PC boots. It is a guided clone, not a repair tool, so encryption, MBR to GPT conversion, and non-Samsung targets are outside its scope.
