How to Find Pictures on an Old Hard Drive on Windows 10/8/7

Can't Find All Pictures on Old Hard Drive Windows 10

"I sold an old computer this morning with the hard drive left behind, which stores many pictures, including the memories in college, wedding ceremony, and honeymoon vacation. When I connect the old drive to my new computer, to my surprise, it shows empty! Any idea on how can I find all pictures on the old hard drive?"

Old storage devices may experience issues such as data loss, corruption, or failure to read/write data when attempted to be opened and used again. This is often due to physical degradation or software incompatibility.

If you're experiencing issues with your old hard drive, such as errors or missing files, it's likely due to hard disk problems or the drive's age. Unfortunately, this can result in lost data, and even if files still exist, they may not be visible. To recover pictures in formats like JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, and PDF, you can try using the Command Prompt if the images are hidden or missing, or apply Qiling data recovery software if they're deleted or formatted. This can help you access files on your old hard drive on Windows 10/8/7.

Method 1. Find Pictures on an Old Hard Drive with Command Prompt

The Command Prompt can help find existing pictures on the hard drive, including hidden images. However, if photos have been deleted or formatted, the CMD won't be helpful, and a professional data recovery tool should be used to restore the lost files.

Step 1. Press the Windows key + R keys to bring up the Run box.

Step 2. Type cmd in the empty box and press Enter.

Step 3. To view all the .jpg files on the old hard drive, type `g: dir /s *.jpg |more` and press Enter on the Command Prompt black window. (assuming the old hard drive is detected as drive G:)

To see all folders on drive G that contain JPG files, use the command "g: dir /s *.jpg |more" and replace ".jpg" with the file format you're looking for, such as ".png".

Step 4. Once you've identified the folder, copy the directory path and paste it into Windows Explorer, where you can find missing pictures with a specific format.

Method 2. Use Deep Data Recovery to Find Wanted Photos

If you've lost your pictures due to mistaken deletion, formatting, virus attack, RAW partition, or lost partition, don't worry. You can use Qiling hard drive recovery software to recover all your pictures from the hard drive, including those in the emptied recycle bin, external hard drive, USB flash drive, Pen drive, SD card, or other storage devices. This software enables you to find and recover lost pictures intact with ease.

Qiling data recovery software can recover lost files, including photos, documents, emails, audio and video files, and more, in addition to recovering lost Word documents in Windows 10.
