My PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly, help!
The Windows 10 shutdown screen freezes after a system update, causing the computer to hang on the shutdown screen and requiring a manual power button press to shut down. This issue occurred after upgrading to the latest Windows 10 version. A solution is needed to resolve this problem.
Windows 10 shut down hangs or stuck issues have been a common complaint among users, but don't worry if you're experiencing this problem on your PC. Fortunately, there are recommended solutions that you can follow to repair the issue, as suggested by Qiling and other professionals.
1. Please restart your PC, then go to the Start menu, click on "System", and then select "Power & sleep" from the options.
2. To ensure optimal power settings, click on "Additional power settings" and review all settings to verify they are correct.
To resize a Windows partition, download and install partition manager software on your PC, then follow these steps.
After this, reboot PC to keep all changes.
1. Type: power options in Search and hit "Enter".
2. Click Power Options > Choose what the power button does.
3. To enable password protection, go to Change settings that are currently unavailable and turn it on.
4. To disable Hybrid Shutdown, uncheck the box next to "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" in the Power Options. This will prevent your computer from automatically turning off and on quickly.
5. Click "Save changes" and close Power Options window.
Step 1. Type: Device Manager in the Search box and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
Step 2. Double-click System Devices to expand its sub-items.
Step 3. Right-click on Intel(R) Management Engine Interface > Select Properties.
Step 4. Go to Driver tab and click on the Uninstall button and click delete driver to confirm the operation.
Step 5. Reboot PC and Windows 10 will automatically install uninstalled drivers with the latest version.
Here are two ways to get rid of the "Windows 10 shut down stuck" issue:
1. To resolve the issue, go to Device Manager, find the Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA ACHI Controller, right-click on it, and select "Uninstall device". Then, restart your computer.
2. Download the latest version of Intel RST driver from Intel website and install it.
Some apps and programs, like the Chrome browser, may still run in the background and cause the Windows 10 shutdown to get stuck, preventing the system from shutting down properly.
To stop Chrome running in the background, you can follow these steps:
1. To access advanced settings in Chrome, click on the menu icon, typically represented by three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser window. From the dropdown menu, select "Settings", then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Show advanced settings".
2. Under System, untick the box that says Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.
3. Close the settings tab.
1. Right-click Start and select Control Panel > Troubleshooting.
2. Select Fix Problems with Windows Update under System and Security.
3. Select Troubleshoot as Administrator.
4. To run maintenance tasks, go to System and Security > Troubleshoot, and then click on Select Run Maintenance Tasks as an administrator.
If this won't work, continue with step 5.
5. To reset your PC, go to the Search box, type "Reset This PC", and press "Enter".
If this doesn't work, continue with below steps.
6. Right-click Start and select Run.
7. Type: msconfigand hit Enter.
8. Select Services > Check Hide all Microsoft Services > Uncheck Only 3rd party programs that you installed such as an AV program.
Don't uncheck Intel, NVIDIA or AMD services.
9. Click Apply > OK > Click Restart.
10. Shut down PC.
