What is Incremental Backup

An incremental backup only saves the changes made since the last backup, making it a more efficient way to store data.

Incremental backups are a faster method of backing up data than full backups, as they only include files changed since the most recent backup, making each backup an increment of the previous one.

Reasons for Backing up Windows 10/8/7 Incrementally

Windows 10 practitioners prioritize incremental backups to ensure a safe and smooth OS experience. This is because backups allow for the restoration of lost or deleted data, while incremental backups preserve and protect data by creating copies based on differences, minimizing backup time and storage space.

Qiling Backup supports incremental backups, addressing the slow restore disadvantage, and its newest version has significantly improved performance. This free backup software allows for easy incremental backups of Windows 10/8/7 and all PC contents.

Tried and True Steps to Create an Incremental Backup

To create an incremental backup schedule, follow these steps: we'll take incremental file backup as an example. First, set up a full backup of your files, and then schedule a daily incremental backup to capture any changes made to your files since the last backup. This will save storage space and reduce backup time.

Step 1: Open Qiling Backup and select "File backup" as the backup mode.

To protect your valuable data, it's a good idea to regularly back up important files such as documents, pictures, music, and videos, ensuring they are safe and easily recoverable in case of data loss or system failure.

Step 2. Select the files that you want to back up.

To customize the backup settings, select the "User Defined" option at the top left corner. This allows you to browse and select specific file types from your computer or external storage device to back up.

If you want to backup only specific file types from a folder, you can use the option at the top right corner to exclude other files.

Step 3. Select a destination to save your backup file.

Step 4. Click "Schedule" to create an automatic incremental backup.

To set up automatic backups, select the frequency (e.g. "Weekly") and day of the week (e.

Our software will initiate a full backup for the first time, followed by a recurring backup task that only backs up changed files every Sunday.

Notice:

Since it's your first time creating a full backup image, the process may take longer as it needs to image all selected files. Just take a little rest and wait patiently, and you'll be done soon.

If you have enough space, you can also select the "Appoint weekly first backup as Full" option, which enables both a full and incremental backup at the same time, but this would require a lot of disk space.

Step 5. Click "Proceed" to execute the full back up.

Once done, the system will automatically execute an incremental backup on a set day, ensuring data integrity and security.
