An HP laptop on a mechanical drive spends its boot time waiting for a platter. An SSD upgrade keeps Windows, HP support tools, and the recovery partition exactly where they are.
This guide covers the bay and slot check for Pavilion, EliteBook, and ProBook models, the firmware settings that matter, and the clone itself.
Cloning suits a healthy Windows install. If the drive already shows SMART warnings, image it first and replace the hardware instead of repairing it.

Buy for the slot you actually have. An NVMe module will not fit a SATA M.2 slot, and a 2.5-inch drive will not fit an M.2-only chassis.

If the laptop uses RAID mode, keep it unchanged for the first boot. Switching to AHCI afterwards needs the safe-mode preparation described in HP support notes.
Qiling Disk Master copies the whole HP disk, including the EFI or system reserved volume and the recovery partition, so the SSD boots on its own.
Step 1. Open Qiling Disk Master, choose Clone, and then select Disk Clone.

Step 2. Select the HP HDD as the source and click Next.

Step 3. Select the new SSD in the USB adapter as the destination and confirm that its data will be replaced.

Step 4. Review the partitions, keep the EFI and recovery volumes, and tick Optimize for SSD.

Step 5. Click Proceed, wait for the copy to finish, then shut down and swap the drives.

If the SSD is detected but Windows will not start, the boot entry or storage mode is wrong. Cloned Drive Wont Boot Fix covers both repairs.
No. Any tool that copies the full disk with its hidden partitions works, including Qiling Disk Master.
Only if the model has a second slot or an optical bay caddy. Most HP laptops hold one drive.
It can. Keep the mode unchanged for the first boot, or prepare the AHCI switch carefully.
The drive is usually a user-replaceable part. Check the model manual and keep the original drive.
Yes when the used space fits. Shrink the C partition before the clone and check every volume.
Before changing drives or partitions, create a full system backup. Qiling Disk Master creates an image you can restore from.
Step 1. Open Qiling Disk Master and select System Backup to include Windows and the boot partitions.

Step 2. Save the image to a drive other than the target disk and start the backup.

Step 3. Click Proceed to start the system backup and wait patiently until it finishes. You can also tick Shut down the computer when the operation is completed to power off automatically.

Step 4. If the copy will not start, restore the image to a spare drive and boot from it.

An HP upgrade is decided before the clone: 2.5-inch bay, M.2 slot, or both. Confirm the key type, update the BIOS, and note whether the firmware runs AHCI or RAID. Copy the whole disk so the recovery partition and boot files travel with Windows, then set the SSD entry first, keep the SATA mode unchanged, and restore HP drivers before you judge the result.
